Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment    NEW

Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing (LiPS™) Program
(Next training coming Fall 2008)

The cost of the six-day training is $800.00.  A copy of the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program for Reading, Spelling, and Speech will be provided for an additional cost of $110.00.  The manual is needed for the course.  Lunch and refreshments are included in the cost of the program.

The course uses published materials and techniques developed by Patricia and Charles Lindamood*.  It presents procedures for assessing and developing awareness of sounds in words as a basis for decoding and spelling. Beginning in 2007, the course will comprise six days so that teachers can learn the basic techniques of Precision Teaching.  The LiPS training:

• examines the sensory and cognitive processes basic to reading and writing;
• explores the relationship of phonological awareness to language comprehension;
• provides study and supervised practice in techniques for developing phonological awareness;
• provides study and supervised practice in application to decoding, spelling, and sight vocabulary;
• teaches methods for developing self-generating and self-correcting behavior in oral and written language.

In addition to being prepared to use the LiPS™ program to develop the ability of young children to learn to read and to remediate reading difficulties of older children and adults, participants:

• develop an understanding of how articulatory-motor feedback augments and supports phonological awareness;
• increase their knowledge of the phonological and syllabic structure of the English language.

When taught during the LiPS™ training program, Precision Teaching provides a 'fluency' component not included in the LiPS™ program.  Participants learn how to conduct practice of basic skills that have been learned so that students perform the skills at a rate which ensures that they are retained and are available even in taxing or distracting learning situations and ensures that they are available when the basic skill is a necessary part of a more complex skill which is being learned.

*Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes in no way guarantees the quality of the materials that may be supplied by ESLEA or NHPIN which are not affiliated with, certified, licensed, monitored, or sponsored by Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, Nanci Bell, Phyllis Lindamood, or Pat Lindamood.

BASIC LEVEL I
STANDARD LEVEL I
STANDARD LEVEL II

If you believe that:
- The cognitive structures of the brain can be changed to improve the quality of thinking;
- Cognitive inefficiency comprises a critical factor in poor academic achievement;
- Cognitive enrichment leads to development of intrinsic motivation;
- A systematic and intentional intervention that facilitates cognitive efficiency is necessary;
- Assessment of cognitive skills on national and local standardized tests makes it necessary to train
students intentionally in these skill;

Join us for this series of workshops which provide teachers and administrators with the knowledge and ability to introduce students to this world renowned program.

The cost of the five-day training is $900.00.  Materials, lunch and refreshments are included in the cost of the program.

The Instrumental Enrichment (IE) program, developed in the 1950's by Professor Reuven Feuerstein, is designed to develop and/or strengthen the cognitive skills necessary for academic learning and achievement.  The IE curriculum provides a strong theoretical foundation for teaching metacognition, the ability to be aware of and analyze one's own learning and thinking process.  The curriculum provides a scope and sequence of cognitive skills which are taught directly first and then extended into content areas.

PRECISION TEACHING WORKSHOPS

Watch for new workshop to be scheduled in Fall 2008.

Precision Teaching & Math Fluency - Friday, March 7, 2008

Strategies designed to develop math fluency for learners of all ages

Classroom teachers, math teachers, special education teachers, tutors and paraprofessionals will be provided with the opportunity to learn Precision Teaching strategies for teaching mathematical skills.  Precision Teaching is a system to measure learning, not a curriculum to teach; therefore strategies are applicable to a variety of curriculum materials.

Workshop highlights:
•  Charting fluency rates (standard Celeration Chart used by precision teachers)*
•  Foundation skills necessary for math success
•  Math fluency achievement
•  Planning a math fluency block
•  Strategies for individual, small group and classroom instruction
•  Diagnostic Prescriptive Teaching

*In addition to the math fluency workshop, a two-hour session is being offered prior to the workshop for those individuals who have not experienced the Standard Celeration chart used by Precision Teachers.  This introductory session will provide individuals with basic charting techniques as well as an opportunity to practice charting mathematical skills.

Charting & Math Fluency  *  8:30 to 4:30  *  The cost of the one-day training is $125.
Math Fluency  *  10:30 to 4:30  *  The cost for the partial-day training is $90.

The workshops will be held at the offices of Exeter Speech, Language & Education Associates, One Hampton Road, Suite 101, Exeter, New Hampshire.  Lunch and refreshments are included in the cost of the workshops.

Sherri Beall, M. Ed. will be the instructor for this workshop.  She received her initial Precision Teaching training at Morningside Academy in Seattle, WA and has continued to work in consultation with Elizabeth Haughton, an expert in Precision Teaching, to develop her repertoire of skills.  Sherri is a partner in Exeter Speech, Language & Education Associates and has developed a math program based on Precision Teaching techniques.  Her experience includes teaching in both public and private school settings.
